From my experience, I have found that HTC and Motorola phones are typically the best as it relates to reception. The Nokia phones typically make better use of the battery, though it varies from model to model. I would suggest looking at the specs for any phone you are considering and look at both talk time and standby time. A phone that has 12 hours of talk time is excellent, but more phones these days have less talk time because of the graphics and additional features. 8 hours of talk time, is actually pretty good these days.||Keep in mind that if you are going to use a Bluetooth headset that Bluetooth is a huge drain on the battery and you will see your battery life shorten significantly. These are much more efficient.

Why GSM....?

If you don't know already, unlocked GSM mobile phones are in demand because you are no longer restricted to what service provider you can use. They will often charge you more for standard package plans for mobile phones such as the Blackberry. You can make this a thing of the past and bring choice back into the picture by using unlocked GSM cell phones.

Many people wonder why you have to unlock a mobile phone in order to use it with a different service. Well the answer to that is simple. Instead, they use a SIM (Subscriber Information Module) card to associate the serial number to your phone. Changing your service provider is plug and play easy because all you have to do is switch out the SIM card associated with one provider and swap it out for a SIM card associated with your desired provider. Once that is done then you have your phone ready to go! You can use your expensive new Motorola, Blackberry, or Nokia phone with any provider at any time. It truly is that simple.

If you have a T-Mobile, Cingular, or the newer M-mode service with AT&T, then you are already using a phone with GSM service. This means you are one step away from having an unlocked GSM mobile phone. GSM is extremely popular all around the world. The most common in the United States is CDMA, but that doesn't mean you can't use GSM phones in the USA. I am pretty sure you won't find anything about this in your agreement, but if you are the paranoid type then you can certainly check there before proceeding with an unlocked GSM phone.
